The Brothers Solomon
The Brothers Solomon has got to be the worst movie I have ever seen. It can not even be categorized into the comedy genre. It is aimed at the teenage audience. It is a raunchy-comedy movie someone would go see on a rainy day when there is nothing better to do. It stars two men off of Saturday Night Live. The main point of the movie was for the two brothers to make a baby before their comatose father died. They ended up being sperm donors, but in the end their sperm was not even good. The woman they got pregnant, ran off with the baby. She had a black boyfriend, and in the end, the baby ended up being black. The directing, acting, and plot of the movie just sucked horribly. It was a waste of my time and precious seven dollars.
DG Grab A Date
Tonight I went to the Delta Gamma Grab-A-Date. My date was Lucy Mercer. She asked me to go with her because I am one lucky fellow. We went bowling at a local bowling alley. We ate little snacks. We got to hang out with all her fellow sisters and a few of my fellow brothers. We got to wear these cool blue shirts and go bowling. I had a great time and can not wait to do it again!
Exams
Exam time is not my favorite time of school. I always intend on studying way ahead of time and be prepared, but it always seems it never works out that way. I always end up writing papers and cramming the night before. My University teacher always stressed that pulling all-nighters and staying up all night before a final or exam causes you to do bad on the test. The best way to prepare for a major exam or final is to study way ahead of time, read over all the chapters and notes, get a good night's rest, and eat a healthy breakfast. The good thing about exams is that once they are over, we can finally go home for Christmas break for a month. This allows me to rest and spend time with my family and friends back at home.
Text Messaging
i believe that texting is taking over the world. everwhere you turn around somebody is text messaging on their phone. it seems that our conversations these days are cut short due to texting. we have limited time and limited ways to communicate with each other. Texting is an fast and easy way to communicate while in a hurry or in class. Texting is also known to cause distractions, such as in a conversation or while driving. It can cause people to feel unimportant if you sit there and text while you are trying to converse with someone. It can also cause fatal accidents if you are looking down at your phone and texting, instead of looking up at the road and driving. But, it is very common among both teens and even adults nowadays. It is probably soon to be the number one way of communicating.
my passion
everyone has that one hobby or that one thing they like to do that just makes the entire world disappear while they are doing it. i consider this someones passion. for some people this "get away" is hunting or fishing, for some its sports, others it could be reading. i think everyone has this in them somewhere and when you find out what it is you will know for sure. i was lucky to realize early on that my passion was basketball. im not quite built for it and the odds definitely arent in my favor for the sport but all i know is that i love it. ive never worked so hard at anything in my life quite like i have for basketball. i played all through highschool and my love for the game grew by the day. to this day there is no other feeling to me than playing a good game of pick up with friends or people ive never met before. i tend to relate everything i do to basketball bc its what i know best. i plan on being a coach one day and i am well on my way to becoming a successfull coach one day.
I think facebook is nothing but a legal drug. it is without a doubt just as addicting as any other drug on todays streets. if you know of a college student without a facebook account this person probably has straight A's. i can not tell you how often i catch myself and others on facebook when they should be doing schoolwork. in an average classroom you can look around and i am willing to bet that 50% of the computers open have facebook up on them, i know i am guilty of it. the worst part about it is that it is not intentional to put off work and start facebooking but it just kind of happens. when you look at your computer its like without thinking your hans automatically start typing URL in before you realize what you are doing. i am not saying that facebook should be banished or anything like that because i think that suicide rates would skyrocket if this were to happen, im just simply expressing my opinion on the topic. now i have to go bc im waiting an important facebook message...ttys
FFC
the food in the fresh food company that we eat every day, sometimes multiple times a day, needs to be improved in quality. i have good reason to believe that nobody had informed the workers that soaking food in butter for several hours while serving it is not a good idea. we have very few healthy options when eating there. sure there is a salad bar but one can only eat salad so much. they seem to also think that when you have extra meet of some kind, and extra bread of some kind, that you should put them together and make a new sandwhich that is disgusting and unhealthy. there is a sandwhich line where you can custome make a sandwich and this is good because of the option of eating wheat bread. this is along the same lines as the salad, sandwiches get old after three meals a day of just sandwiches. they serve a good bit of pastas also and i have yet to see anything made with or the option of it being made with wheat pasta. these are a few changes i think that would be easy to do and very beneficial to everyone.
Speech class
i went into the SCM 111 class that i am in now nervous and anxious. i did not know how i would do with public speaking when it was for a grade. normally speaking in front of people does not bother me, ive done it quite often since 7th grade. the fact that i was being evaluated by a teacher and my grade was riding on it suprisingly through off my confidence and made me more nervous than ever. my first speech i gave i was stuttering and missing lines because i was so nervous. i have since then given 3 speeches and this nervousness has pretty much gone away completely. i now have to give a speech in two days for a final grade and i do not get nervous or anxious at the thought. i am actually glad to be giving a speech rather than taking a test for once this semester. this was a big accomplishment for me this semester and i am glad that i had this experience.
brotherhood retreat
Recently I went on one of the best retreats ive ever attended. I have been on several long, drawn out, well planned retreats and still none compare to this one. it was not planned out or had an outline of what needed to be discussed but instead was more just open to discussion about whatever needed to be talked about. most would think amongst a large group of fraternity brothers that the focus of an open retreat like this one would be mostly on negatives of certain people and situations. though there were some negatives brought up the majority of the discussion was positive and very uplifting. Everything bad said was then turned into an oppertunity or way to fix something. this retreat was definitely an experience i was not exspecting but i am glad it happened. it was a great experience and i can not wait for the next one.
